This is a clip from a Japanese robotics competition. The mouse is allowed this exploration round to map out the maze and then is given a speed round to see how fast it can complete its chosen path. You can tell the mouse is creating an image of maze piece by piece because of the way it gradually learns which way to go. The speed round can be seen here .
